NYFW: 3 Best Hair Trends

This week's IFB Project is all about the beauty trends at New York Fashion Week, which is perfect since I was just discussing all the crazy hair and makeup to a few friends the other day. Overall, I liked this season's fashion week. It started off with a few questioning collections, but quickly redeemed itself by the second day. When I look at shows, I'm in it for the clothes. I don't intentionally ignore the beauty aspect of each look, it's just that the clothes grab my attention first. Like watching a movie, the second time I view a collection is when I notice the fine details in beauty and accessories....usually.

This season, the hair trends caught my eye right away. We seem to be the era of edge and intensity, styling women in a way that our clothes and hair now match our internal power. and strength. From asymmetrical bangs to mullets, designers took a more eccentric approach to complement primarily structured collections. Even if I didn't like the hair, I appreciated the risk. My top three picks include big hair, hats, and middle parts.

1. "The higher the hair..."
Hair full of secrets graced the runway at a few shows throughout the week. Teased, sprayed, and brushed to high heavens, each fashion show had a different take on how to wear volumized hair.

[How to wear it]
Big hair looks best when it's volumized without all the stiffening hairspray. Natural hair textures and volumizing shampoo make a great combination for big hair that still appears soft and effortless.
[Why I like it]
For me, big hair screams confidence and authority. Not to mention, it creates major hair envy.



2. Keep it covered
Hats were on runway shows varying from Kate Spade to Band of Outsiders. It seems it doesn't matter what hat tickles your fancy, as multiple styles were used for the shows.

[How to wear it]
The most wearable form of this trend is the beanie. How perfect is it when practicality meets trendy? Beanies look great with multiple hair styles: all tucked under with a little bang peeking through the front, topped over loose waves, or worn with a side braid.
[Why I like it]
Some days are destined to be bad hair days no matter how many products are stockpiled in your bathroom. Hats are the perfect solution for those bad hair days, and you'll still be in style while taming your mane.

3. Straight and narrow
There once was a time when middle parts were seen as boring. Not anymore, as this was the most common hair trend during NYFW.

Bone-straight hair with a middle part looks super chic when paired with minimal eyes and a bold lip. 

[Why I like it] 

I always find myself wavering back and forth on the side part. My hair tends to naturally part on the side, but I often associate a side part with high school. The middle part is a good way to switch up my usual style without going extreme.
